Special Abilities Family Fun Event
This event is free and open to the public, organized by Albion Volunteer Fire Department in conjunction with EHCA. We are hoping to show the community that firefighters are fun! Along with Albion VFD and several other local fire departments, kids and people with special needs will be able to meet firefighters in full gear, touch actual fire tools, and even look at fire trucks, ambulances, and other rescue equipment.
Sunday, June 12
1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Albion Elementary/High School parking lot
This is an interactive event where a real firefighter will help you see if you can make a high pressure hose spray our “fire” target, go inside a working ambulance or fire truck, and maybe even see how high a bucket really goes in the air. We will have carnival snacks and water available, and everyone gets a prize to take home with them!
Why is this event important? One of our residents volunteers at Albion VFD, and knows the firefighters there very well. Once while he was at the fire hall, their tones went off and once he saw all his friends in their full gear, he was really scared. He thought that his roommates and even other people in the community might feel the same way, and wanted to get people together to learn how much fun firefighters are, even if sometimes they look scary. He also requested a DJ and wanted to have a party, so these groups got together to make that happen:
We wanted to also thank all the local volunteer fire departments, not only for helping with this event but for your bravery every time you are out on a call. We appreciate your dedication to the communities and people you serve. Finally, thank you to our major event sponsor, USI Insurance.
