RACP Grant in the amount of $1,000,000 awarded to Erie Homes for Children and Adults, Inc. (EHCA) Community Homes Project

New community homes for individuals with complex medical conditions - a project of EHCA-is the largest and most aggressive initiative in the agency’s 107-year history

Erie, PA – Erie Homes for Children and Adults, Inc. (EHCA) community homes project has been selected as a PA Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) project and awarded a $1,000,000 grant in the most recent announcement of RACP awards.

“On behalf of EHCA’s Board of Directors, we wish to thank the entire State of Pennsylvania, the Governor’s Office, and our local legislators for this generous allocation! The magnitude of this award is truly transformational and will allow Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens to receive quality care in a true home-like setting,” said EHCA Board Chair, Caroline Manino.

EHCA’s newest community homes are equipped, designed, and staffed to care for individuals with intellectual disabilities who have medically complex conditions. Each home will become the residence for six individuals and will each cost over $1,000,000, including property acquisition, site preparation, construction, and equipment. Beyond the excellent care, this project will help to provide, it also provides many economic benefits to the Erie community.

The $1,000,000 RACP grant complements EHCA’s recent capital campaign. “Our mission is to assist people with disabilities to live rich and fulfilling lives. The individuals we care for require significant attention and support. Of the children and adults entrusted to our care, few could thrive without our direct intervention or that of a comparable service. We take pride in our “go above and beyond” approach, where our goal is more than just ensuring the basics of a nice bed, meal, and daily care. We do all of that and make every effort to assure our clients have the opportunity to make choices, to contribute to their daily lifestyle, and to enjoy a home-like atmosphere with quality caregivers. Every day, we provide five major programs and employ over 570 team members who care for more than 400 residents and community program participants,” said Charles Walczak, MBA, FACHE, EHCA’s Chief Executive Officer.

The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act, have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact, and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues, or other measures of economic activity.
